A little about Steve…
Steve Exum is the founder and principal photographer of Exum Photography, LLC, a commercial photography studio based in Burlington, North Carolina. Exum is a North Carolina native who grew up in Raleigh and is the son of former Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court, James Gooden Exum, Jr. and Judy Jamison Exum. Steve, his wife Molly, their daughter Bella and son Sawyer live in the university town of Elon near Burlington with their dogs Cooper and Obi. Steve and his creative team create images for a mix of commercial and editorial clients. After earning a B.A. in journalism with a visual communications emphasis in 1992 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Steve built a range of talents shooting for the demanding needs of different daily newspapers. Steve moved to the Czech Republic in 1995 to work as the picture editor for the Prague Business Journal. He returned to North Carolina in 1997 to start his photography business near Greensboro. Steve and his associates work from two studio spaces; a 4200 square foot studio warehouse space in Burlington and a smaller natural light 1500 square foot studio in Elon to produce both still and motion imagery. Their work is shot both in studio and on location. The Exum team specializes in conceptual portraiture, fashion, apparel lay flat, architecture, home furnishings, product, industrial photography. On limited basis, our studio provides photojournalistic wedding photography coverage. A few of Steve’s favorite clients include Johnnie-O, Southern Tide, FreeFly, Heybo, Fish Hippie, Fisher Wealth Management, Carrier, General Electric, and Glen Raven, Inc, the makers of Sunbrella. Steve especially enjoys scuba diving the NC coast and boating with his family. Family, hiking, diving and sailing are his passions outside of photography.
